At Seekho Sikhao, we are on a mission to transform education in rural India. Through our diverse range of activities, we aim to enhance government schools, empower communities and leaders to create a brighter future for the next generation. Explore our initiatives across three main categories:

Learning

Our learning program redefines education in government schools through empowerment, collaboration, and responsibility. This shift motivates teachers to facilitate holistic learning and transformation. From redefining assessment and the learning process to digital empowerment, we are committed to fostering a love for learning and enhancing educational quality.

Teacher Collective Meeting (TCM)
Monthly sessions empower teachers to collaborate and co-create lesson plans based on national guidelines. Discussions include challenges, solutions, lesson planning, and exploring new teaching methods, ensuring a conducive learning environment where children are taught based on their individual levels.
Classroom Facilitation
SSF team members support teachers in applying plans from the TCM, for integrating subjects, and transitioning to capability-based assessment. Holistic growth is prioritised, with curated portfolios showcasing diverse abilities and observation books tracking the process.
Parent Teacher Meeting
A platform for parents to engage in their child's academic progress. One-on-one interactions with teachers and sharing children’s journey through curated portfolios rekindles parents’ faith in schools.
Digital Empowerment
In the digital age, access to technology is essential. We provide select schools with Smart TVs to effectively use digital content and implement AI-driven content. We establish computer labs in some schools with a tailored curriculum; training community members to conduct these classes, ensuring comprehensive tech education.
Community Engagement
We involve community members, parents, and local authorities to engage in dialogue and action, creating ownership. We leverage existing structures like the Gram Panchayat and School Management Committee to collectively identify challenges, co-create solutions, and take responsibility for strengthening their own education ecosystem.
Education Advocacy
Advocacy is at the core of our mission. We raise awareness about the importance of education and collaborate with all stakeholders to facilitate implementation and drive systemic change creating a movement of accountability which is scalable as well as sustainable.
Empowered Women
Women leaders play a pivotal role in shaping our programs. We empower women representatives and community mothers to address local issues effectively and participate in education and governance actively. Their diverse expertise and unwavering dedication, creates a ripple effect that extends far beyond classrooms.
Infrastructure Enhancment
We leverage existing government funds and resources to enhance school infrastructure. By collaborating with local governance structures and communities, we create a sense of ownership, resulting in proper maintenance and usage.
Community Engagement

Governance & Community Engagement​

Community involvement creates accountability which is key to sustainable change. Our activities in this category centre around engaging with local communities, advocating for the implementation of education policies, and enhancing school infrastructure. By collaborating with stakeholders, we leverage existing structures and resources, creating an ecosystem where education can thrive.

Fellowship

The Seekho Sikhao fellowship program provides a unique opportunity to enable youth to facilitate systemic change for development and in the process develop their core skills.

AGENTS OF CHANGE
Through direct engagement with schools, public representatives, and communities, the fellows understand and facilitate the functioning of the public education system and local governance institutions. This enables them to catalyze educational reform and rural community development.
SKILL DEVELOPMENT
While working in the field, through immersive experiences, fellows develop their capabilities to problem solve, communicate, analyze, empathize and become systemic thinkers who are job-ready and vital contributors to our workforce.
covid-19

The education challenge during the pandemic

Despite only 10% of the rural population having internet access, we found a way to ensure continued learning from home during the Covid-19 pandemic by developing and distributing 29,000 + competency based worksheets over 8 months. We saw 30% improvement in certain competencies. We also facilitated teacher professional-learning meetings.
